Our Mission

To support the health and welfare of our residents through philanthropy

History

The Lifespace Foundation Story

The Lifespace Foundation, established in 1992, serves as the charitable arm of Lifespace Communities, Inc. Through the years, the Foundation has evolved into the multi-dimensional organization that it is today, fulfilling our mission to support the health and welfare of our residents through philanthropy.  It was once believed that a senior living community should be the next best thing to being home. Now, we believe it must be more than the next best: It must really be HOME. When a resident joins a Lifespace community, they move into a new home in a new “neighborhood”.  Their floor plans may change and the lawn may not need their personal attention but the feeling is still the same of being part of a community and wanting to be a good neighbor. For nearly three decades, The Lifespace Foundation has been providing tax-deductible charitable opportunities for residents, team members, family and friends who are inspired to enhance the lives of those in our communities and to be a part of a “neighbors helping neighbors” and “friends helping friends”.

“When we embrace and fully support The Lifespace Foundation and all of its potential, it is a great unifier for all of us. It will allow us to raise funds for a common purpose and to decide on programs and projects to complete for our common good. There is nothing better than us all working for the good of all our residents and team members”.

Carl Gaddis, resident at Friendship Village of South Hills

Benevolent Care is the cornerstone of The Lifespace Foundation and is Lifespace Communities’ unwavering promise that if a Lifespace resident outlives their financial resources, through no fault of their own, the organization will continue to support and care for that resident the remainder of their life. In addition to benevolent care, there are also funds that support the social, intellectual, spiritual and physical needs of all residents. In addition, the Foundation provides educational and emergency financial support for our team members to allow for continuous exceptional care for our residents.

The Foundation is able to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their families thanks to the generous support of our residents, team members, family, friends and corporate sponsors of Lifespace Communities, Inc. Your tax-deductible charitable contribution to The Lifespace Foundation helps guarantee that our residents will always have an opportunity for successful and purposeful aging and the peace of mind that they have a home for life.

The Lifespace Foundation q&a

What is the Lifespace Foundation?

The Lifespace Foundation is the charitable arm of Lifespace Communities. It serves to separate the main business interests of Lifespace Communities from the charitable mission which sets it apart from similar organizations. Why does Lifespace Communities need a charitable arm?

When I donate to the Foundation, where does the money go?

Each Lifespace Community has funds restricted for use at that community. A donor may choose to support one of the community specific funds or one of the four Lifespace Foundation enterprise-wide funds.  See “Support our Mission” for more information about available funds to support. If a gift is undesignated, the money will support the General Use Fund at the community of choice.  If a donor is not a current or former resident and no community is designated, that gift will support The Lifespace Foundation General Use Fund.
